The Estonian Journal of Archaeology is an open access international journal published by the Estonian Academy of Sciences in collaboration with the Institute of History and Archaeology at the University of Tartu, and the Institute of History, Archaeology and Art History of Tallinn University.
The journal publishes primary research and review papers in the English, Estonian and German languages. All articles are provided with short summaries: if the article is written in Estonian, the summary should be in either English or German, and vice versa.
All papers to be published in the journal are peer reviewed internationally.
The journal is open for publications in all fields of archaeology.
The Estonian Journal of Archaeology is committed to Open Access publishing and belongs to the so-called Green Open Access group of journals. The journal applies the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License CC BY-NC to all articles (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/). This means that all articles will become freely accessible once published. Anyone will be allowed to read, download, save, copy, print and distribute the paper in any medium or format and remix, transform and build upon the paper for personal use as long as the original authors and source are cited. In doing so, no permission is required from the authors or the publisher.
The repositories of universities and other scientific institutions are allowed to redistribute and display the articles for non-commercial purposes.

Article Publication Charges
To partly cover the publication costs the Estonian Academy Publishers charges a publication fee of 250 euro for articles of up to 20 printed pages submitted from 1 January 2017 onward.
The fee will be waived by the Estonian Academy of Sciences to authors whose articles are based on studies supported by Estonian funding bodies (provided the specifics are explicitly declared by the author in the Acknowledgements) or who address priority topics in Estonian and Finno-Ugric cultures. Requests for waivers of publication and/or excess page fees should be presented in the cover letter. Herewith, information about support received from the Estonian Academy of Sciences will appear in the Acknowledgements of the article.
Readers in general benefit most from research publications that are thorough yet concisely presented. As handling, editorial and production costs are directly correlated with article length, manuscripts of reasonable length are preferred. Longer papers are accepted provided the authors are willing to cover the excess costs.
Authors are invited to pay the standard journal fee and the excess page fee after acceptance. No handling fee is applied to manuscripts rejected by the publisher. Banking data will be sent to authors together with an acceptance note. Payment should be normally made in Euro to the bank account of the Estonian Academy Publishers. Prompt payment is advised, as the article will not be sent to the production cycle until payment is received.

After final decision on manuscript acceptance has been made, authors may choose an option to apply for “fast track” publishing. In that case the paper will be included in the next issue under the process of publication by increasing the number of pages. The author will be invited to cover the relevant extra costs, that is, to pay the double standard article fee and excess page fee prior to publication.
Digital copies of all issues and individual papers published in the Estonian Jouranl of Archaeology are deposited in the Estonian National Library Digital Archive DIGAR (http://www.digar.ee/arhiiv/en).
